Terms of Service
Updated: 2026-05-26
These terms govern your use of Local ("the app"), an iOS app that recommends places in London. By installing or using the app you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
1. The service
Local provides personalised place recommendations — restaurants, bars, cafes, landmarks, and cultural venues — based on your location, the time of day, and a taste profile that you shape through your in-app feedback. Recommendations are informational. We do our best to keep place data accurate, but you should always verify details that matter (opening hours, accessibility, dietary suitability) with the venue itself.
2. Accounts
You can use Local anonymously or sign in with Apple or Google. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure. You must not create an account for someone else without their permission, and you must not use the app to impersonate another person.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the app for any unlawful purpose, or in breach of any applicable regulation.
- Scrape, harvest, or programmatically extract place data, recommendations, user content, or any other content from the app or its backend.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to derive the source code of the app, except to the extent that this restriction is prohibited by law.
- Probe, interfere with, or attempt to bypass the security, rate limits, or infrastructure of the app or its backend.
- Harass, threaten, dox, or send unsolicited bulk messages to other users through any social feature.
- Submit content that is unlawful, defamatory, hateful, sexually explicit, or that infringes someone else's rights.
- Use the app to build, train, or augment a competing recommendations product or dataset.
4. Your content and ownership
Lists, saved places, taste signals, and any other content you create in the app remain yours. By using a feature that makes content visible to others (for example a public list or a follow), you grant Local a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, and display that content for the sole purpose of operating the app and showing it to the audience you chose. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account.
The app itself — its design, code, brand, logo, copy, illustrations, and the way recommendations are generated — is owned by Local. Place data is sourced in part from OpenStreetMap under the Open Database License (ODbL).
5. On-device AI
On supported Apple devices, Local uses Apple Intelligence (FoundationModels) to generate short personalised insights on place cards. This runs entirely on your device. No personal data, location, or preferences are sent to Apple by Local for this feature. The app works fully on devices that do not support Apple Intelligence; you simply do not see those on-device insights.
6. Beta and changes
Local is a young product and we are still polishing it. Features may change, be added, or be removed. The service may experience interruptions. We provide the app "as is" and "as available" during this period, and we appreciate your feedback — bug reports go to ed@local-app.co.uk.
7. Suspension and termination
You can terminate your account at any time from Profile → Settings → Delete Account. Deletion is permanent and removes your data from our servers immediately.
We may suspend or terminate your access to the app, with or without notice, if you breach these terms — in particular the acceptable-use rules in section 3 — or if we are required to do so by law. We will give you reasonable notice where it is practical to do so. Termination does not affect rights or obligations that, by their nature, are intended to survive (for example sections 4, 8, 9, and 10).
8. Liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded under English law. Subject to that, and to the maximum extent permitted by law, Local and its developers are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential loss arising out of your use of the app, and our total liability is limited to GBP 100. Recommendations are informational only — always verify the things that matter to you with the venue directly.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. If we make a material change we will update the "Updated" date at the top of this page and notify you inside the app before the change takes effect. Continued use of the app after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.
10. Governing law and disputes
These terms and any dispute arising out of or in connection with them are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, except that if you are a consumer resident in another country in the United Kingdom or the European Union you may also bring proceedings in the courts of that country.
